Vegan events in Japan: three dates to save for autumn 2026

Tokyo, Nagoya and Gotanda: a verified calendar, what to expect from a vegan festival and what to check before you go.

If you are looking for vegan events in Japan in autumn 2026, the official pages checked on 16 September confirm three dates to put in your diary: Vegan Gourmet Festival in Tokyo on 4 October, the same festival in Nagoya on 11 October, and ASIAN VEGAN CONNECT in Gotanda on 3 November. Dates, opening hours and programmes can change, so use this article as a starting point and check the organiser’s page again before buying a ticket or setting out.

This is a calendar and planning guide, not a first-hand report from our editorial team. We have separated what has already been published from what is still to be announced: there is no invented exhibitor list, price list or menu here. The cover photograph comes from the official archive of past Vegan Gourmet Festival editions: it shows a real moment from the event, but it should not be used to infer the programme, exhibitors or conditions of the 2026 edition.

Tokyo Vegan Gourmet Festival: 4 October at Kiba Park

The first date is Tokyo Vegan Gourmet Festival on Sunday 4 October 2026 at Kiba Park Event Plaza, 4-6-1 Hirano, Koto-ku. The official page lists free admission, 10:30–16:00 opening hours and about a twelve-minute walk from Exit 1 of Kiba Station. The event is planned for rainy weather, while a typhoon or severe conditions may lead to cancellation: check the official notice on the day, especially if you are travelling from another city.

Treat Tokyo as an outdoor festival day, not as a restaurant with a reserved table. The stall map and exhibitor list may be released or updated by the organisers; the access page asks visitors to check the official information and channels. Wear comfortable shoes, keep your phone charged and plan your return. Do not assume that every stall accepts the same payment methods, serves the same portion size or has the same waiting time: ask on site.

Nagoya: 11 October at Tsuruma Park

The second date in the calendar is in Nagoya on Sunday 11 October 2026, in the Tsuruma Park area indicated by the organiser, between the Concert Hall and Fountain Tower. The published hours are also 10:30–16:00 and admission is free. It belongs to the same Vegan Gourmet Festival series, but it is not the same day as Tokyo: if you build an itinerary between the two cities, allow for transport, accommodation and recovery time instead of assuming that the exhibitors will be identical.

Tokyo and Nagoya are good opportunities to discover plant-based dishes, meet local initiatives and compare food and products in one place. They are not a permanent catalogue of Japanese veganism, however: the programme is seasonal, attendance can vary and updates are released progressively. It is more accurate to describe them as specialised festivals than to promise a particular brand, recipe or regional cuisine before it appears in the official announcements.

ASIAN VEGAN CONNECT: 3 November in Gotanda

The third date is ASIAN VEGAN CONNECT on Tuesday 3 November 2026 at City Hall & Gallery Gotanda, 8-4-13 Nishigotanda, Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo. The main programme is listed as 11:00–16:00 with free admission; the organiser also announces a paid party from 16:00 to 18:30. The announced format includes Vegan Beauty Selection, Asia Vegan Awards, Asia Vegan Market and stage talks. Operational details are still to be released, so do not buy services or plan an evening around a programme that has not been confirmed.

If you are searching for a vegan event in Kyoto in autumn 2026, be careful with older pages and copied calendars. The official update checked for this guide says that no autumn Kyoto event is planned and that the next edition is scheduled for spring 2027. This distinction can save you an unnecessary detour: bookmark the organiser’s page and verify the year, not just the city name.

What vegan means at a festival

At Vegan Gourmet Festival, vegan refers to an event focused on plant-based offerings with ingredient information displayed at the stalls. It does not automatically mean that the festival is safe for every allergy or that there is a separate kitchen for each allergen. If you have an allergy, ask the vendor directly about the dish and its preparation; also consider contact between utensils and surfaces. An unclear answer is a valid reason not to order.

To plan your visit, first save the date in the correct area of Japan and open the event’s official page. Then check the address, opening hours, weather notices, route from the station and announcements from the final week. Bring a short Japanese sentence explaining that you are vegan, a note listing allergies if relevant, water and a little time buffer. A free festival does not need to become a race between stalls: leave room for queues, conversations and changes.

How to plan your visit

Travellers can combine these events with our guide to eating vegan in Japan and the directory map of verified places. A festival is useful for exploring many ideas in a few hours, but it does not replace checking a restaurant for an important dinner or an allergy. If you arrive late, the weather turns or the queue is long, a nearby station alternative makes the day easier. Always check the directory’s verification date before relying on one address.

Your food strategy also benefits from a little realism. Do not assume that every stall serves a complete meal, that portions are the same or that menus will remain available until closing. You can taste, ask questions and combine several preparations, but keep a backup plan if the journey is long or you are travelling with children. That keeps the festival a pleasant way to discover Japanese vegan food rather than a critical point in your trip.

Practical questions

Are Tokyo and Nagoya the same event? No: they belong to the same series and share the broad concept, but they have separate dates, parks and on-site organisation. Attendance and stall layouts can change. If you are choosing because of one exhibitor, wait until it is listed in the official announcement for that specific day and do not treat a photo or an old edition’s list as confirmation.

Is Kyoto on the autumn 2026 calendar? No, according to the official update checked for this guide. A spring 2027 edition is indicated, but its date, venue and programme still depend on a future organiser announcement. Look for the year in the page title: it is the quickest way to distinguish a current notice from an old event listing.

Is a vegan festival safe for people with allergies? Not automatically. Ingredient information helps, but it does not certify the absence of cross-contact and does not replace a conversation with the individual stall. Explain the allergen, ask how the dish is prepared and skip it if the answer is not clear enough. Vegan and allergen-free are different concepts.

Editorial check and sources

Editorial check: 16 September 2026. We checked the published calendar, venues, hours and conditions on the official Vegan Gourmet Festival and ASIAN VEGAN CONNECT websites; the sources are listed below. Weather, exhibitors, menus, payment methods and programmes can change. Before travelling, repeat the check on the organiser’s pages and update your itinerary with a main option and a backup.
